Flash Flood Watch

02/11/2019 1:09 PM through 02/12/2019 6:00 AM

Flash Flood Watch issued February 11 at 1:09PM PST expiring February 14 at 10:00AM PST by NWS San Francisco CA

The National Weather Service in San Francisco has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of northern California...
Including the following locations: The entire San Francisco Bay
Area and Central Coast except for the hills of San Benito
County and the East Bay Valleys.

* From 10 PM Tuesday evening to 10 AM Thursday morning

* An atmospheric river with origins near Hawaii will take aim at
the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Coast Wednesday through
Thursday morning. Rainfall rates of at least half an inch per
hour are possible during the heaviest showers, with the highest
rates in the higher terrain. Recent rainfall has saturated
soils across the area, and the additional heavy rainfall will
create the potential for widespread shallow landslides,
rockslides, and debris flows. Periods of heavy rainfall will
likely inundate storm drains with rapid rises on small creeks
and streams.

* The Wednesday morning commute will be adversely impacted with
flooding roadways and ponding of water expected. Periods of
heavy rain are also possible during the Wednesday afternoon and
Thursday morning commutes.

* Expect rapid rises on flood-prone creeks, streams, and rivers.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
