Flood Watch issued May 17 at 2:32PM EDT expiring May 19 at 12:00AM EDT by NWS Wakefield VA


The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of southeast Maryland and Virginia,
including the following areas, in southeast Maryland,
Dorchester, Inland Worcester, Maryland Beaches, Somerset, and
Wicomico. In Virginia, Amelia, Brunswick, Caroline, Charles
City, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Eastern Chesterfield (Including
Col. Heights), Eastern Essex, Eastern Hanover, Eastern
Henrico, Eastern King William, Eastern King and Queen, Eastern
Louisa, Fluvanna, Gloucester, Goochland, Greensville, James
City, Lancaster, Lunenburg, Mathews, Mecklenburg, Middlesex,
New Kent, Northumberland, Nottoway, Powhatan, Prince Edward,
Prince George, Richmond, Southampton, Surry, Sussex, Western
Chesterfield, Western Essex, Western Hanover, Western Henrico
(Including the City of Richmond), Western King William,
Western King and Queen, Western Louisa, and Westmoreland.

* Through Friday evening

* A very moist southerly flow will overrun a frontal boundary
situated near the area tonight through Friday evening. Numerous
showers and isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected
across the lower Maryland Eastern Shore...the Northern Neck and
Middle Peninsula...and Central and South Central Virginia.
Rainfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected with locally higher
amounts possible.

* While flash flooding cannot be ruled out...runoff from the heavy
rainfall may result in flooding of streams and creeks...as well
as ponding of water on roadways.


A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
